Turning that attitude into GRATITUDE.

Hello Pilgrims and Indians!

I will not be teaching any classes Thanksgiving Day.
In part because they are all canceled, but also because I'm going to be stationed at the State Street Thanksgiving Day Parade, where I will be giving helpful advice on Yoga for Digestion.  No joke.  This is what my life has become.  So, if you're on State Street Thursday morning, and have the mind to prepare for what will be going on with your inners later, find me at the SE corner of State and Jackson and I'll show you how to get that tofurky moving.

Following your personal version of the 1621 reenactment and the ensuing leftover brigade, bring your buddha belly on down to yoga class. This weekend will be special, since its a holiday and all.  So don't forget that if you've got family in town, yoga class is a great place to relax and/or hide.  You can also drop them off if need be.  We'll practice some gratitude-awareness, a proven cure for whining, irritability and, in some cases, binge drinking.

If you're feeling troubled, stressed, or generally discontented with the human experience, try making a Gratitude List.  If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a gratitude list, you are very likely among those who would benefit greatly from creating one.  As an example, here's a starter list I invite you to embrace as your own and extend:

1) This time around, I am not an Alaskan turkey.
2) I have access to the World Wide InterWeb SuperHighway to Heaven. (Tabbed Browsing, if applicable, counts as its own item.)
3) November 4th, 2008.
4) Karen Faith likes me.
5) ...

A Gratitude List is like Christmas Wish List, backwards.
Instead of writing down all the things we hope someone will bring us, that we will be miserable until we get, we write down all the things we already have, that we've been lucky and even happy to have, and would probably be miserable to lose...  In an ideal world, you could use your Christmas Wish List for your Gratitude List on December 26th.  In fact, if you're one of the blessed few who are no longer limited by the constraints of time and space, you can already do that.  And since it is good and right to emulate the actions of those who have gone beyond, I would highly encourage you to go ahead and make a Gratitude List for all the blessings in your life - past, present and future.
